October Wine Club Tasting Notes...

THE BOULEVARD MARKET WINE CLUB; GERMAN GEMS

MONCHHOF RIESLING; MOSEL
Bold dashes of white pepper, ash and crushed stone go toe-to-toe with scintillating nectarine and grapefruit flavors here. Semi dry and richly extracted, it's a powerfully ripe yet light-bodied Riesling balanced neatly by a brisk undertow of acidity. Best now–2025 YES, you can save this a bit!
Pairs well with cheeses, salads and appetizers.

SHELTER WINERY SPATBURGUNDER (PINOT NOIR)
Husband and wife team Hans-Bert Espe and Silke Wolf make inspired, delicate and polished Pinot Noirs from their few hectares of Pinot Noir just north of the famous Kaiserstuhl in Baden, Germany. The vineyard is cooled by the Black Forest to the north and the soils are a mix of limestone and loess that result in wines with moderate alcohol and high acidity. No herbicides or pesticides are used in the vineyards; harvest is done completely by hand. In the cellar, a short cold soak is followed by a delicate press (normally the stems are removed, though this can differ from vintage to vintage) and fermentation in open-top vessels. Shelter's Spätburgunder is aged in used oak barrels, producing a delictate Pinot with high-toned red fruit aromas and flavors, light body and thriling finish. Amazing with red or white meats, salmon, cheeses and pasta.

PROST
Rheinhessen, the ‘Land of a Thousand Hills’, lies on the left bank of the Rhein River between Mainz, Worms and Bingen. People here are proud of their successful viticulture tradition. Its beginnings go back to the Romans who already planted vines along the banks of the Rhine River.
100% Riesling planted to loess, limestone and loam soils in a mild zone; the region is surrounded by protective hills and forests; in the west: the forested, hilly countryside.
Intense aromas of green apple, peach and apricot. Mouthfillingly crisp and elegant with refreshing minerality and a lingering dry finish. Excellent with grilled pork, salmon and white fish. Serve well chilled.

SCHLINK HAUS DORNFELDER
This fruity Dornfelder is a delightfully light and fruity red wine with flavors of bright cherries, blackberries, and strawberries. It offers a soft and elegant finish. This is walks the line between sweet and dry. It’s very nice chilled for about 15 minutes as well! Pairs nicely with appetizers especially salty cured meats and cheeses. Also lovely with a steak or burgers!

BOCKING PINOT BLANC
The extremely steep, slate-laced hillsides in the central region of the Mosel River offer optimal conditions for producing great Riesling and Pinot Blanc wines. Since 1624 the Böcking Family has been devoted to producing wines of the highest quality – crisp, fruity wines that are the finest a wine enthusiast could desire.

This clear and brilliant wine reflects the mineral soil of the Mosel. There is an excellent balance of acidity and fruit that opens quickly but it’s definitely a dry wine.. The wine has a roundness in the mouth and offers flavors of citrus and white flower. This is one of my favorite wines for salads, white meats, Thanksgiving dinner and cheese.
